Dressing Up Distressed Jeans

Happy Wednesday – we’re already halfway through the week and July is flying on by! You might remember from one of my previous posts that I mentioned I hate wearing shorts, which I’m getting better about but is still true. Besides denim capris, distressed jeans of any length have been my best friends this summer! I’ve found distressed denim to be a little bit tricky to style – if they’re TOO ripped then you end up looking like a 2010 junior high school girl styled you, and if you wear them with flip flops and a plain tee the whole outfit comes across as casual (which can be totally fine!). But for those who would like to look a little more put together while wearing distressed jeans, I have just the outfit for you!

Right now I am absolutely obsessed with this top – it’s an older one from Zara, but I know that Tradesy has sold several and you can find them on Poshmark as well. I love the way this top has such a simple cut at the top and then the bottom is asymmetrical and has ruffles. Two of my favorite things! 🙂 The Aeropostale jeans I’m wearing are older as well but I found a similar pair from the same brand and right now their jeans are on sale!

I hope you’re enjoying these types of “outfit idea” posts. I am doing my best to link everything I share on here so it’s easy to shop, and if I can’t find the exact item I will link a similar one like I did in the photo above!

The Perfect Outfit To Wear When It’s 100 Degrees

Lately temperatures have been in the upper 90s (it was up to 100 on the 1st of July!) and the humidity always works such wonders on my hair, LOL! Since it isn’t socially acceptable to run errands in your bikini, I thought I’d share an outfit idea for those days that are almost too hot to operate! I’ve been wearing this outfit everywhere lately because it’s breathable and lightweight without being too thin! The ruffles and gingham still make me look put together and stylish even if I feel like a sweaty mess! 😉

{Side Note – I would recommend going up a size in the top / shorts set! I went with a size 2.}

My Top 3 Denim Shorts For Summer (Adorable & Affordable)

I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I hardly EVER wear shorts out in public, even if it’s super hot. I’m stuck at that height where shorts at a modest length make my leg look even shorter and chubbier than it really is, but I’m not at all comfortable with my shorts hem grazing my buttcheek either! I’ve come up with a list of three denim shorts that I’ve been loving and wearing this summer (and AGAIN – they’re all under $110!).

1.) Wal-Mart has EVERYTHING, including some of the most comfortable shorts! These are pretty thin but they keep you cool without showing off too much. I love the elastic waist band – it feels like you’re wearing pajamas but no one will no that but you! 😉 These are the lounge shorts and they’re made by Levi Strauss (same quality, cheaper price tag!)

One Teaspoon has my all time favorite denim shorts. I love the dramatic raw hem on the Blue Society Bonita Low Waist Denim Short because they give the illusion of a longer hem. The shorts are a little longer in the back than they are in the front, so you don’t have to worry about your bum hanging out all day either. These are the shorts I was wearing in my latest Instagram post at the beach… One Teaspoon always runs big so make sure you read the size chart on their website before purchasing (I had to go down TWO sizes and went with a Size 23.)

I’m obsessed with the the color of these High Rise Denim Shorts from J Crew. It’s called the “Brixton wash” and I feel like it’s the perfect middle ground between being too light and too dark. I HATE shorts that have a light wash because they stain so easily! My favorite thing about this pair of shorts is that the rolled hem is short AND modest. Why can’t all shorts be this nice to me??

My Favorite Tops For Summer ($110 and Under!)

As soon as it gets hot outside I start struggling to come up with outfits that I would deem “cute”. I throw on a plain tank top and shorts and out the door I go! My goal this summer is to break that habit by staying cool AND stylish. Here are my top 5 T-shirt and tank top picks – and they’re all under $110!

1.) I love the simplicity of this Lace Cap Sleeve Tee from Loft. You could knot it at the bottom or just leave it hanging straight and you could ALSO wear this casually or dress it up! It really is a versatile piece and the lace sleeves are so romantic.

2.) I’m obsessed with the powder blue color of this Lace Button-Back Top from Banana Republic. I love an elbow length sleeve because it makes my small arms look a lot more flattering than a shorter sleeve. This top also comes in a pretty wide range of sizes, starting at XXS (which isn’t always easy to find).

3.) I am really loving lighter yellow colors this season, and of course it’s better when it’s in lace. I love the higher neckline on this Victoria Blouse from Anthropologie and the way the lace on the shoulder gives the illusion of a dainty cap sleeve.

4.) Marc Jacobs is the perfect place to find sassy but simple tees. The Marc Jacobs Reverse Graphic Tee is extremely comfortable and very high quality, which is why this brand is one of my faves. I love a good crop as long as it’s covering my belly button so this top is perfect and it gives an illusion of a smaller waist. If you want a little more coverage, just go a size up! 🙂

5.) This Floral-Embroidered Top is sheer and soooo cool! It’s really lightweight without the material being too fragile. My favorite part about this is the floral appliqués on the sleeves – they’re just so girly and dainty!

Wearing A Robe…. Out In Public

So this all stemmed off of me saying “I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!” for the millionth time. No, its not true but if you try to tell me that you never say this I’ll know you’re fibbing! 😉 Alex had just gotten off of work and asked me to be ready when he got home so we could go to Saks Fifth Avenue and maybe swing into Nordstrom if we were feeling REALLY crazy (yes, that trip was for me). This was the ensemble I came up with in the twenty minutes I had to get ready. I guess pressure makes perfect sometimes. 😉
